some days l have a hard time getting the car out of park. it is temperamental. sometimes it takes me a 1/2 hr, others it just takes a wiggle of the shifter, most times it just slightly hangs up. any solutions??
i have also moved the steering wheel back abd forth,up and down, turner the key to accessory, pumped the breaks, applied the e-break....
is there any other switch for the break pedal besides for the break lights??

Have you tried turning or trying to turn the steering wheel back and forth.

there is a slot on the shifter plate towards the top .place a long key in it when shifting ot of park.

Several things can happen defective brake light switch, Shift lock control unit or the cola & coffee spilled around the shifter over the years have become sticky & the solenoid just is not moving back far enough for the shift release button to release out of park & neutral. My own car l would use a spray bottle of glass cleaner & compressed air to blow out the sticky stuff. Blow dry is essential with a pin point nozzle. At the Nissan Dealer l replace the expensive shifter assembly or the shifter interlock solenoid available as a separate part.

There is a little blue relay under the shifter that controls the whole lot. Tends to fill up with gunk, replace it.. About $50 from nissan & genuine only l am afraid & takes 2 hours labour to get at it. l found out when l was about to rip that whole system out. Client went home very happy.

By the way the A32 Maxima is most probably one of the best Cars ever made. Bet u lot have never seen one with a manual transmission.. ohh nice car. Then there is the ''Station wagon''. or the 3.0S Touring (NZ only)

When you park the car you need to apply the e-brake BEFORE you put the car in park and take your foot off the brake. If your on a slight incline and you dont follow this procedure then the car will roll a bit and bind up the trans making it difficult to take the car out of park.

Read your owners manual. My 99 max does the exact same thing if l dont properly use the e-brake.
