l own a 2005 Nissan Sentra with 34,000 miles on it. In early November, my dealership noticed 80% coolant leakage through the 3rd cylinder. They replaced the head gasket, reconditioned the cylinder head, etc. A week after picking up the car, the service engine light came on again. It was throwing a swirl control valve code. The light stayed on for about a week and then went off again. Last week, l smelled coolant again and the coolant in the reservoir was below the minimum level. Does this mean the repairs l had done under the powertrain warranty did not work or could it be another issue? l would really appreciate any advice. Currently the car is running fine but l am taking it back to my dealership on Monday.

i think the job they did could be related to the problem u have now. head gaskets is a big job, & a lot of stuff needs to be removed in order to complete the job. they might have a loose hose that they did not notice, & now it is leaking again. unfortunately, l have no idea what a swirl control valve is, so l can only say that it might be another issue. if the car is running fine, then more than likely it is not head gaskets again, possibly just a leaky gasket or loose hose. l would encourage u to take it back to the dealer & do not take no for an answer. if they did something wrong they should be held responsible.

Head gasket is not a uncommon repair. My shop does 10 to 12 a year. But remember there r hundred is of thousands Sentra out there. Many times air pockets work there way out of the cooling system l would top off the coolant with 50/50% mix when cold take the cap off coolant should be right at the top then fill the reservoir just to the MAX line. Swirl valve electric malfunction can either be the Solenoid or the sensor on the engine wall. If l had the code number.
