Ok so basically there is more to my question besides what the heading may say. So l know that ALL engines tick after being turned off. all the cars ive ever had- have done that. no big deal.

But recently when l turn off my car, it ticks realllllyyyy quickly, and is not your average tick! and it sounds the same each time.

So basically l wanna know if there is something l should be looking at? and if it is something outside of the engine cooling down.

Catalytic converter maybe.

The tick you here could be the hot engine oil dripping back into the oil pan. It is common, and nothing to worry about.

Did you check your oil?

Those r pretty good , but l am gonna throw u a curve..

Engines expand when they get hot, & they contract when they r shut off & start to cool. The water temperature is something like 260 degrees (the new pressurized systems like yours) & the engine temp is probably around 400 degrees. The exhaust manifolds r pretty close to 600 degrees, maybe a little hotter, & SOMEhow they're all gonna cool down to room temperature. this does not even include ur exhaust pipes or catalic converter (like someone else mentioned - It may run as high as 1,000 degrees while ur tailpipe is cooler by 2 or 3 or 4 hundred degrees)

When u shut ur engine off, ur engine actually heats UP because u do not have the benefit of the coolant that was running through the radiator going back into the engine cooler than it came out. It is all stopped & is heating up FAST.

THEN it starts to cool off.

The TICKING is everything trying to cool off at different rates & not tear itself apart in the process.
