Im currently 17 years old and will be 18 soon, so l need a car thats good with gas, with good horsepower and thats fast, and that looks good. At the moment my dad is looking at 04 Maxima LE (l think they're called) l did some research and it seems that they have a horrible transmission, but l figure maybe that was before and they got recalled (did they?) also, from what l hear the 02 Maxima is actually faster (and has mor horses) and and more reliable than the 04. Can this possibly be true? Can you please write down the cons and pros of both? Or maybe Maxima isnt my ideal car after, all and there are faster cars/more convenient cars/ cars that dont take up too much gas. Prphaps a Honda Accord or something?

Get an 02 or 03 Maxima if you get a Maxima. The older body style is cheaper to buy, cheaper to insure, and IMHO.the better car. The 00 and 01 had about 222 hp while the 02/03 had 290.

For a midsize car the Maxima is fast. However, at age 18 you really do not need a large sedan that will drink the gas fast. Consider a Honda Prelude or late model Celica. Both cars in top trim level had just around 200 horsepower and are reasonably quick.

well being that l own a 2000 nissan altima se 5spd, and a local race team l would say personally say that nissans are the way to go . l have done small things like replaced the clutch and new tires and brakes.basic maintenance and l port and polished the intake , l can currently out run a 5.0 mustang thats mostly stock that my buddy has and l can out run one of my teammates 240sx that has the same engine KA24DE

04 maxima SE has Tranny problems??? thats very unusuall.

but l would go for a 02 or 03 you get a 255hp v6 power plant and its kinda more slimmer then a 04 so you can get more pep.
