Nissan Almera 03 Engine Management Light came on this afternoon on a 100 mile + journey.
The car seem to drive well.
l suspect oxygen sensor or similiar is not working properly.
What are the common sensor problems. Is it just the OXY sensor or are their others that may be the cause?
Can l reset the light or can a garage only do it?
Is is ok to drive back or best to sort out locally on Tuesday.

Back home now and again car drove well avg 70 mph on motorway.Last 2 times the oxygen sensor failed there was misfire increase in petrol consumption,and idle speed would be less than 5.Currently -No misfire
idle speed is ok and petrol usuage is ok.
Will the light not go out eventually if the fault has cleared?

Why would u suspect an O2 sensor? NEVER replace any part till u know the problem. There r as many as 11 sensors that could cause the light to come on. If the lite is steady & not blinking u r ok. If there is a major auto supply, such as Auto Zone, at hand stop in & have the codes scanned & write down the numbers. The code scan will turn the lite off but it will return after a period of driving. When u get home bring the codes back here & we can help u diagnose the problem.

Something as common as a loose gas cap can set the ''Check Engine'' light called a MIL for malfunction Indicator Light. Codes r P for powertrain & a 4 digit number. Powertrain codes that can cause emissions r available to most generic scan tools. Being in the USA l do not have access to Europien & Asia recalls & service bullitens. SO my best reccomendation is check ur local Nissan Dealership. Antilock brake codes & air bag codes & transmission codes r only available to Nissan scan tools.
