My son bought this car two days ago. Its really clean and runs very well- except when stopped while in gear. It idles normally for a while, then you hear a 'click' and the idle goes way down and just barely runs. When this happens- both cooling fans shut off. After maybe a minute- ''click both fans come on and the idle speeds up to normal.
Is this a bad switch somewhere? Is it easily diagnosed?

l would start with air flow meter/senor. It may need to be cleaned (cleaner is in an aresol can). Its the on the air filter pipe with an electrical plug. At the very least you can run the car to local parts store and have then run a diagnostic on the cars computer. Its free and only takes about 30 secs. Just besure to write down what they tell you.

This problem sounds like the ''fast idle control switch''.it is located on the throttle body,usually this switch moves maybe about a 1/2'' to make the car idle higher when the a/c is on.If this switch loses voltage while the a/c is on it will almost kill the engine in the car.
