you have to take off the tank and either clean it professionally or just change it out..

make certain none of the sugar made it into the engine.. tow it to a station, and get this done.. this is not to be take lightly as it could cost major amounts to get the engine replaced for melted sugar in the system.

You need to take the tank loose and flush it out.Take the fuel filter off and back flush the fuel lines,then put on a new filter.You may have plugged fuel injectors too. l hope you reported this to the police.Will insurance cover vandalism ?

Sugar in the gas tank is a really bad problem. You will have to have the entire fuel system flushed & cleaned. May require that the gas tank be dropped to do it. All the fuel lines & the carburator will have to be cleaned. l hope this is not a fuel injected car. Clean the fuel filter & replace the filter element. If it is then all the fuel injectors will have to be cleaned too.

l hate to say it, but for a car of that age it may be cheaper to scrap it & buy another car.

Bolderdash! Urban Myth sugar does not melt or disolve in gasoline now if they also put liquid water based or coke into the tank then you really have a problem. Most the time removing the fuel tank and cleaning out all the gasoline rinse and let dry a couple days in the sun replacing the tank, fuel filter and filling the gas tank back up. Altima Fuel pump slides into a plastic bracket inside the tank.
