okay, recently ive asked about upgrading a 2003 honda civic...

but l have another question (because upgrading looks a little more complicated than expected)

my friends dad is selling one of his skylines (older model) for about 14 or so grand

apparently they put in new intercoolers and some extra performance accessories and whatnot..

apparently 450 hp...
so l was wondering.. in terms of gas consumption.. is this car good or bad?

is it going to be a hassle to keep up with maintenance and that stuff?

its a car, so this is a really big decision and l dont wanna just have the word of the seller.

Well that depends on how well he is keep ed it well maintained. You should have a certified mechanic take
a look at the car before purchasing it. That way they
can make sure everything is ok. Cause then u will
end up having to pay for parts, which do not come cheap
for a skyline. You can not exactly get them at any auto-zone or
Kragen. You would actually have to get the parts ordered
from japan, depending on what it is.

As for gas mileage. Regards less, with these gas prices your
going to spend a lot. The consumption on gas really depends
on the way u drive the car. If u keep driving in it hard,
then obviously u will have very gas mileage. At the end
its ur decision. And it would be cool to own a Skyline, especially since they r rare to see here in the States.

The real question is: Is it a real & legitimate Skyline in the first place. Those cars were never intended for the U.S. market & many have been brought into the country through importers like Motorex & others. It will get poor fuel mileage. Parts will be more difficult to get. This is all assuming that it is here legally. l would stay away from it. Most LS1 Camaros & Firebirds have much more performance for less hassles. The only reason to own a Skyline in this country is for attention. Good Luck

Which model r u looking at & which year models vary in parts & power,More common models r from the R32 upwards & range from non turbo to single turbo to twin turbo models.
The R32 does feel, not power but the car itself very close to the 180sx s13 which l owned also & l was not surprised to find out many parts fit from the sx & vice versa to the skyline. Parts wise for the R32 & the R33 spec 1 r easy to get due to them reaching import age in Canada so there r plenty going there also, Nissan around the world still stocks parts & can order them,something l have done with them a few times also there r many breakers worldwide & l see many owners from skyline forums & traders sending parts to the US etc.

Maintenance is like any car really & so long as belts r done regular oil & filter changes r done it should see u right with little problems these engines no matter which model r bullit proof hence tuners loving them.

Mods & power wise l can send u links to forums & traders etc,but these engines can reach scary bhp limits hence them being the legends they r & through them racing changing motor racing rules to stop them taking part due to all there wins.

Fuel wise has to be higher Octane the higher the better.The R32 seems to get higher mpg & the R33 models seen to get around 17mpg careful town driving & 24 motorway driving.This varies slightly with mods seem similar with the single & twin turbo models non turbo models reach high mpg.

The prob with owning a skyline is what do u go to next style wise there r loads of kits to change its style,and power is when ur money runs out as bhp seems endless,also the worst thing is removing the smile from ur face everytime to drive it.

Great cars & no one can say any other any owner l have ever met only says great things about them.

It can travel half the distance a Honda Civic can travel.

Upgrading is way more complicated than most people expect. Especially with OBD-I l (1996+ cars) which puts more sensors in the car to interfere with ur aftermarket parts. l do not know from experience but I've read enough.

Skylines r not worth it, unless u live in Canada (where cars over 15 years old r completely legal) the cops will probably be after u in no time. l would also imagine even a base skyline would get no better than 30mpg & a GT-R probably would not get over 22. 450hp..probably not even that much.

If upgrading looks complicated to you and u can not figure out the mileage on an inline 6 be it 2.0 liters 2.5 or 2.6 then chances are you should not get one.. Seriously get a scooter instead.
