Eh first can you handle the power of a twin turbo car..second if you wanna go fast, go with the 300zx. Just do not go and hurt yourself. Forced induction is the way to go.

Expect Premium gas for a turbocharged car like the 300zx.

the 300zx twin turbo is an excellent car,find out when the timming belt and water pump were changed if your serious because that is expensive job and if it breaks while driving the motor is trash,but the vw gti vr6 is an excellent car to and l love 300zx is but l believe l would keep the vw

VW is cheaper as far as maint cost & parts. The 300 is extremely tune sensitive & requires a lot of attention to detail to run properly & maint & parts r expensive if ur can not do it yourself. If ur unfarmilar with the z, then stay with the VW. l would check the maint records on the z. IF its had the 60k maint package done thats a good start. Also check the the top of the alternator for any signs that the high pressure power steering hose is leaking. l am a z lover & l say if u know what ur getting into, go with the z. 1994 300ZX & a 6 year newer VW GTI. Look dude l think u would be better off buying a 1990 to 1996 300ZX out right & keep the GT l until u fix up the 300zx. Timing belt cars some times need expensive repairs 300zx have injector connectors that crack & moisture eats away the always on injector plugs making green electrolysis. Do what u want but have all the service history for both cars on the table. Please have the 300zx checked by a Nissan old timer before finalizing the deal & before swapping car problems. Your newer y2k car plus money sounds crazy to me trade straight across.

As to the choice - the 300zx will be older & just a bit dated, although they still look good for their age. But the biggest difference will be in performance. Since ur vr6 is normally aspirated there is very little u can do to get more horsepower. The 300, on the other hand, will ''chip'' up to 400 horsepower immediately with no noticeable difference in any other aspect (gas mileage, reliability, etc.). Plus the 300zx is simply in another league of car; think corvette/supra/boxster.
